2022 – Congratulations to Ziyan on the acceptance of her first-author paper by ACS ES&T Engineering. This is collaborative research with Mohan Qin. We discover that commercial filter membranes release organic particles that originate from the blue separator paper between membrane sheets.

2022 – Ziyan received the best student speaker award for her presentation at the Environmental Chemistry & Polymer Science symposium at the Fall ACS Meeting in Chicago. Congratulations, Ziyan!

2022 – Congratulations to Hanwei on passing her prelim! She is officially a Ph.D. candidate now!

2022 – Congratulations to Hanwei on her first-author publication in Langmuir! We developed a simple method to improve SERS analysis of carboxylic and phenolic pollutants in water.

2022 – Seo Won and Hanwei gave oral presentations on innovative SERS sensors for water pollutant analysis at the ACS Spring 2022 National Meeting in San Diego, CA. Great job on their first in-person conference presentations!

2022 – Dr. Wei received the 2021 Excellence in Review Award from the Frontiers of Environmental Science and Engineering,  a peer-reviewed journal published by Springer.

2021 – Dr. Wei gave an invited talk on SERS-based sensors for environmental pollutant quantitation at the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Fudan University.

2021 – Dr. Wei gave an invited talk on the applications of plasmonic nanoparticles for environmental sensing and remediation at the seminar hosted by the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Shandong University.

2021 – Dr. Wei gave an invited talk on “surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy-based sensors for water pollutant analysis” at the  US Army DEVCOM Soldier Center Water Sensors Symposium.

2021 – Our paper – “Measuring temperature heterogeneities during the solar-photothermal heating using quantum dot nanothermometry” has been accepted for publication by Analyst.

2020 – Our technology for real-time detection of emerging contaminants in drinking water was recognized as a Finalist in the Water Council’s Fall 2020 Tech Challenge. Haoran had pleasant discussions with our industrial colleagues from Badger Meter and A. O. Smith on the opportunities for technology commercialization and future collaborations.

2020 – Our paper – “Direct quantification of the effect of ammonium on aerosol droplet pH” has been accepted for publication by Environmental Science & Technology.

2020 – Dr. Wei gave an oral presentation on plasmon-enabled degradation of organic micropollutants at the 9th Nano Conference (previously known as SNO conference).

2020 – Dr. Wei gave an oral presentation on real-time detection of emerging contaminants in drinking water as a semifinalist for the Water Council Tech Challenge.

2020 – Another piece of my postdoc work has been accepted for publication by Small. We put a “screen” on a variety of nanoparticles to reduce their surface fouling by natural organic matter.

2020 – My postdoc work done in Professor Jaehong Kim’s lab at Yale University has been accepted for publication by PNAS. We have designed a novel gold nanorod structure that efficiently destroys recalcitrant organic micropollutants under sunlight illumination.
